One and Two Minute Sketch
I thought the left drawing was unsuccessful. The clarity is missing – it looks overworked. The one on the right is clearer.

One of the many doodles I did for the graphic novel ‘Broken Parts’. These are quick ink sketches – again no scope for making errors. One of these days, I may start using white out to erase any mistakes. The character is a private army guy. The drawing is done on a 5.5 x 8 inch […]

This is a fully done inside page of the graphic novel Broken Parts. A special creature is being birthed in the red incubator – and is being trained through a few psych. tests by one of the main characters, Artificial Intelligence Dept. Director, Dr. Sejik. Below are the rough sheets for the opening scenes – […]

I believe it was Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation that prompted this cartoon. I was watching a trailer for the film – except it seemed like a commercial for a BMW car. I’m not sure how much the products actually drive the story (if they are paying for it, they might as well), but it seemed […]

I end up drawing multiple poses on the same page. Sometimes they overlap – specially if I draw big. And I have been drawing big these days.
These were quick sketches done on a Thursday night event a Society of Illustrators. The sketch event hosted a few talented local comedians who made us laugh while we drew them. They weren’t holding the poses – they were simply telling us a few jokes. And I was caricaturing their faces. As you probably noticed, […]

In short poses (five minutes or less), it is difficult to lay down an ‘accurate’, final line for forms at a first go. The difficult poses are fun to draw but harder for the model to hold it still. In the five-minute drawing above, I used multiple ‘noodly’ lines, drawn lightly, (refer to page 18 in […]

Fashion drawings are fun. One of my favorite fashion illustrators is Rene Gruau. He knew human anatomy and was gifted with amazing craftsmanship. The exaggerations of the human proportions in his drawings and paintings aren’t boring – as is usually evident in many of the fashion illustrations these days. In fact, I don’t understand why […]

The drawing is fairly ruff – done with a charcoal stick. The focus was on the gesture and the drama of the lighting – though all the life-drawing sessions I attend, the resources for lighting the model are fairly limited. The model’s pose was great and she held it for two minutes.
